I know recently that the state of Missouri passed legislation that creates ABLE or Achieving a Better Life Experience accounts for those with special abilities. Missouri however, is not along. According to the article, “State Officials Plan For New ABLE Accounts” By Meredith Rodriguez, Chicago Tribune/TNS via Disability Scoop, 88 participants from 35 states met a couple of weeks ago in Chicago, Illinois to work on increasing those numbers.
The goal for Illinois was to work with other states to present federal rule makers suggestions on how to implement the process efficiently while also exploring a collaboration with other states. Here’s hoping that Missouri jumps at the opportunity to work with their neighbor. Go Missouri!
Now while the article states that more than twenty states have enacted similar legislation, according to a recent article over at Autism Speaks entitled “North Carolina 30th state to enact ABLE legislation“, the number of states now stands at thirty.
