Culture of autism

Now here’s a little food for thought when you’re talking about autism. It’s the role of culture in the world of autism. To some, the characteristics of autism may cause concern, to others, they are more desirable traits.

The article is entitled “How Cultural Differences Affect Autism Diagnoses Behaviors that are considered red flags in the U.S. and Western Europe are considered normal, even desirable, in other parts of the world” by Sarah C. Bauer, Jessica Winegar, Sandra Waxman over at Scientific American. Hmmm…
