Special needs trusts new rule

Recently I just open up an ABLE account for my son. I had look at opening a Special Needs Trust but decided against it because of the flexibility of ABLE accounts. So I was happy to see this article entitled “Feds Clarify New Rule for Special Needs Trustsby Shaun Heasley over at Disability Scoop. To me, the more flexibility for people with special abilities, as well as their caregivers, the better.

Angies list for kids and adults with special abilities

Okay, this isn’t going to be my typical post but here goes. I came across this article tonight over at Disability Scoops entitled “Angie’s List Eyed For Vetting Caregivers”by Rita Price at the Columbus Dispatch/TNS and it got me to wondering, why isn’t there an Angies list for kids and adults with special abilities?

I tried to get on Angies list to check on home-care providers but I forgot you have to join. Well, as a single parent as well, I don’t have those resources but what if we could create a website for parents such as myself? With a child who is now 16 years old, I’ve begun the process of looking around for possible places for him to live (if not with me or his mom) but I know lots of these kids and adults will need much more than that.

Like Ms. Ryan says in the article “There are literally hundreds and hundreds of providers. It’s hard to know who will work best with their family member” and like she also pointed out ” Just because a home-care agency or an independent care provider is certified to bill Medicaid or Medicare doesn’t mean the service will be high quality”.

Maybe there is already something like this. However, if my experience with the state of Missouri has told me anything so far, it’s probably that there is no list. If anyone has any ideas, I would be happy to listen to them. I may not have money but I do have the motivation (and a web design certificate that’s gathering dust). Maybe we could start a GoFundMe page and see what happens.
