What words say

I think the line…it is the sorrowful hope that their son or daughter dies before them, because they cannot imagine who will care for that child once they are gone that hit me the hardest.

The article is entitled “Oasis of Care for People with Intellectual Disabilities” by Dan Barry at the New York Times.

No stone unturned

You just never know where find something. I recently received a like on an earlier post entitled “Structured to unstructured” from the Bizigal’s Blog and it was there I discovered another blog by her entitled Special Education for Teens but Special Rules for Parents.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I enjoyed her recent post entitled “Why I Give My Kids Teachers A Gift“. I get it.

Sensory issues abound

As most parents of children with autism know, you never know what will set them off and that’s true not only at school or out in public but also at home. So it’s only natural that just like the phrase “there’s an app for that”, “there’s a solution for that” as well.

Check out the article entitled “Designer Focuses on Interiors for Those with Autism” by at Disability Scoop via the Star-Tribune in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Hopefully the Senate will be ABLE to too

I just got an e-mail from Autism Speaks that let me know the ABLE Act has passed in the House of Representatives. Now (as the title of the post indicates) hopefully the Senate will too.

On a sort of a side note to that, I received an e-mail with this great article for adults with autism. It’s entitled “Press Release-First Place: Recruiting Adults with Autism for New Student Residential Program in Phoenix” at the Autism Daily Newscast. Hopefully this idea will catch on as well.
