In the back of my mind

I think this story is one of those stories that makes any parent of someone who is autistic think, hmmm… I still remember going to the grocery store one day with my oldest son and some lady said to me, he looks just like you. So of course you start to think, am I like him?

The story is entitled “Australian Man Didn’t Realize He Had Autism Until His Daughter Was Diagnosedby Joi-Marie McKenzie over at Yahoo! Food for thought anyway.

Girls, girls, girls

It seems every time I turn around, there is more and more research being done on autism and girls. This article does a great job of detailing some of those differences. Some are so subtle in fact that they’re almost impossible to see the first time around.

The article is entitled “Seeking precise portraits of girls with autism by Somer Bishop over at Spectrum News. This is a website that focuses on autism and gender. I have to admit, I’ve never heard of this website before. As the old saying goes, you learn something new everyday. I know I did today.

100, maybe more

Now I’ve talked before about the issue of scientist looking for a cure to autism and how for some within the autism community, that’s not what they necessarily want. Well, when I read this article I thought, it’s going to take a while anyway you look at it. According to some researchers, there are probably a 100 or more genes that make up what we know as autism.

The article is entitled “Researchers Say Autism May be Linked to More than 100 Genes” by Jennifer Chait over at Inhabitots.I know for my kids, a 100 pieces is about their limit when it comes to puzzle. I can only imagine the limit for scientist when it comes to genes.
